Environmental health

A resource manual for environmental health practitioners working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities, designed as a field reference for engaging with and working in remote Indigenous communities.
Health authorities recognise that many diseases experienced by Indigenous people are directly linked to poor environmental health conditions in their communities. If the overall health levels of Indigenous people are to improve, the environmental health and general living conditions that currently exist in many communities must be raised to a satisfactory standard.

The Environmental Health Standing Committee (enHealth) is a standing committee of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC).
Under its Terms of Reference, enHealth is responsible for providing agreed environmental health policy advice, implementation of the National Environmental Health Strategy 2012-2015, consultation with key stakeholders, and the development and coordination of research, information and practical resources on environmental health matters at a national level. The development of national advice by enHealth is based on significant collaboration and consultation with Federal and state and territory agencies, departments and organisations that deal with environmental health matters.

This document outlines the strategic priorities of the Environmental Health Standing Committee (enHealth) and was endorsed by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee in 2016.
