Indigenous Research Unit (IRU)

The Indigenous Research Unit (IRU) fosters the sharing of Indigenous research and knowledges, organisational engagement with and between Indigenous and non-Indigenous researchers, develops the research capacity of academics and research candidates, and educational advancement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.

The IRU works in collaboration with GUMURRII Student Success Unit and Griffith Graduate Research School (GGRS) to provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander HDR candidates with support and guidance throughout their research journey.

Whether you are studying campus or online, the IRU’s dedicated centre at Nathan campus is here to help. You can access a range of formal and informal supports from our team, and we are flexible and responsive to your individual project and career ambitions.

GUMURRII

At GUMURRII the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander staff assist students in many areas, including providing undergraduate and postgraduate support, including tutorial assistance.

Servicing on each of Griffith's campuses, with officers who also assist online students studying through the digital campus, GUMURRII Student Success Unit offers a safe and culturally appropriate environment to enhance the student experience.

Specialist IT services for researchers including high performance computing, research data storage, data collection tools, and programming workshops.

Hacky Hour
Get online help from eResearch & Library staff with OpenRefine, R, Python, SQL and Bash coding. Practice your new programming skills in a supportive environment.  Learn about HPC or virtual machines, what is available and how to use them, and catch up with other researchers learning to wrangle their data.
